During the Minnesota Vikings press conference yesterday to address Randy Moss, I thought Brett Favre said something quite interesting, that surprisingly ESPN brushed right under the rug. Favre stated that players play first and foremost for themselves and secondly for the team. Doesn't that sum up Favre's entire career? I understand the greater point about having to play well to stay in the league and needing to look out for yourself, but as the quarterback and "leader" of the team, how can you say you put the team second?
Maybe no one is talking about his statement because it was so obvious. How else could one guy hold multiple teams hostage in the off season with should I or shouldn't I retirement talk. His team is 2-5 this year, he's tied for the league-lead in INTs with 11, he sent pictures of his thing to a reporter, and he went off the field in the fetal position on a stretcher after getting a cut on his chin.
The guy is a joke and the way he is covered is even more laughable. To bad the Vikings don't have a real quarterback on the bench or there actually could be a chance he gets benched. Instead, Minnesota fans can enjoy 9 more games where he will run and jump like a Pop Warner players throwing his 1st TD when he completes a long pass or a guy limping off the field trying to hold his body together with the fear an appendage could fall off at any moment after he tosses another pick.
Also, I looked for the clip of him saying play for the individual first, but shockingly I couldn't find it on youtube, only his comments on Moss. How could no one else think it was a big deal? Maybe everyone is used to it?
