Top 25 Characters from Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights celebrated the 5-year anniversary of their finale episode a week or so ago.  5 seasons, 76 episodes, it was quite a journey.  I was late to the party, but watched it all, start-to-finish on Netflix.  Loved it.  Not just a football show, in fact it may be in my Top 10 shows all-time... Top 5?  Ok, it's probably too fresh on my mind.

With any great show, there are a ton of great characters.  This list ranks the best 25.  I know it's very subjective.  My criteria is simple.  The person at #1 is who I wanted to see on screen the most, followed by 2, then 3, then 4....

(These rankings can certainly change, also there is no shame of being outside the Top 5 or 10 on this list due to the strength of so many of the characters.  Also cameo appearances don't count, otherwise Mike Leach and his pirate speech would be #1... well, probably 2.)  Here we go..

Now there is a range on these scales as well.  Fargo and The Leftovers are your A+ shows while Jessica Jones is probably an A- and a lot closer to B+ shows like The Flash and Arrow.  I have a love/hate thing with Gotham.  I enjoy it enough, but it's not nearly as good as it should be, same for The Walking Dead.

Am I missing any shows?  Probably.

Looking forward to the return of "Better Call Saul" "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" "Daredevil" and I'm sure others that I can't remember.

I Have Another Favorite TV Show: The Leftovers

I know I'm late to this one, but I am a fan of The Leftovers.  I was in-between HBO subscriptions when it was on, I caught up in record time over the weekend, and after just 1 season (10 episodes) it's one of my favorite shows ever.  (Yes I say this about most shows/things.)  This show is legit though.

As Wikipedia.org describes the premise:

The Leftovers takes place three years after a global event in which many people disappeared, known as the "Sudden Departure", which caused the unexplainable disappearance of 140 million people, 2% of the world's population. The story focuses primarily on the Garvey family and their acquaintances in the fictional town of Mapleton, New York. Kevin Garvey is the Chief of Police. His wife, Laurie, has joined a cult called the "Guilty Remnant". Their son, Tommy, has left home and college while their daughter, Jill, is acting out.


Crazy town.  It's a different spin on the apocalypse theme.  The world is still going on, minus 2% of the population.  Everyone is effected by this, those who lost family and those who didn't.  The characters are developed really well, great acting and a story that you get hooked in to immediately.

Netflix, On Demand, HBO Go, whatever you got, I recommend this one.

I Think I'm Watching The Strain on FX

So, there is nothing on TV right now.  It is a baron wasteland of television programs this summer (every summer).  I watch a decent number of shows: The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Grimm, American Horror Story, Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Louie (was awful this year), and a few more.  They are all on their summer hiatus, so what do ya do?

Still no Sunday night or Monday night football... no NBA or NHL during the week.  It's baseball or bust right now, and for a lot of us, that means bust.

But I think I'm going to watch The Strain.  I've seen the two episodes that have been out, and I'm intrigued.  Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy) and another dude wrote this book, then turned it into a comic, and now it's a TV show.  It's in the horror genre, right now it looks like a crazy virus, is it zombies? draculas? crazy diseases?  Who knows, but you better strap in.

Anyone else watching this thing?  It might not keep your interest if you had a lot on your TV plate, but it being the slow season, I think I'm in.
