Keefer Madness: Horse Edition

The Colorado Rockies gave 1B Todd Helton a 6-year old horse.  Kansas City Chiefs S Eric Perry is terrified of horses.  You can make this stuff up.  These were also the kind of stories we had in mind when we came up with Keefer Madness

Keefer Madness: Mariano Rivera Farewell Tour

Mariano Rivera has been soaking it all in around every MLB park.  He's received a ton of thoughtful gifts and over the weekend Metallica was at Yankee Stadium to play a live rendition of "Enter Sandman."  We covered the whole thing in Keefer Madness while getting a big assist from WFAN's morning show, "Boomer & Carton."

Top 10 Tuesday: Nintendo Games

Now this is a very difficult Top 10, perhaps the most difficult.  Nearly impossible to rank, but we are going to try it anyway.  So many classics, so few spots.  And depending on the day I could make a strong case for any of my top 3 to be the best game all-time. Here goes nothing...

Honorable Mentions: Double Dragon II, Track & Field (with pad), Maniac Mansion, Arkanoid, Blades of Steel, Paperboy, RBI Baseball, Adventure Island

10. Jaws

9. Super Mario Bros. 2

8. Contra

7. Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

6. Little League Baseball

5. Tecmo Super Bowl

4. Super Mario Bros.

3. Mega Man 2

2. Super Mario Bros. 3

1. Mike Tyson's Punch Out

I know I'm missing a few gems, but if I could only play 10 games for Nintendo ever again, I think they would be the ones.

Breaking Bad: Best Show Ever?

It has a chance.  2 episodes left in one of the all-time great TV dramas.  Can it be better than The Wire?  Can any show be better than The Wire?  Well, if it's going to be any show it should be this one.  I, like all of us, will have to watch the final two episodes before making that final ruling.  Because saying a show is the best ever is the single greatest complement you can give a show.

What Breaking Bad and The Wire have in common is they never waste time.  No story line or character is there for mere filler.  The creator, writers, directors, and even actors are all working towards something, and it's obvious.

Maybe I will do a full Breaking Bad vs. The Wire  blog in a few weeks, but for now, I just wanted to throw it out there.

Also as for BB, I'm starting to wonder how differently we'd be watching these episodes this season without all the flash-forwards.  So many times Walt could have been killed, but we know it doesn't happen, at least not yet.  I kinda like it, I kinda don't.  Either way, like last week, I can't wait til Sunday.

Jets Old Logo/ Uniforms Were Better

The Jets are awful. Their uniforms are just as bad.  I have no use for these. However their old helmets?  Not bad.

Throwback Thursday: 98 King of the Ring

In honor of Jim Ross announcing his retirement yesterday we go wrestling in Throwback Thursday.  The 2nd best bracket style competition (now that Pride is extinct).

It's King of the Ring.  Here is how it shook out back in 1998.

Top 10 Tuesday: Movie Sequels

Here are the 10 best movie sequels of all-time.  Only sequels to an original film are considered.  So no "sequels of a sequel" on this list, if it's part of a series it has to be the second.  With so many great sequels to choose from like Hangover 2, Iron Man 2 and Jurassic Park 2 it was really hard to find just 10.

Honorable Mention: Scream 2, Halloween II, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Batman Returns, Aliens, Bad Boys II

10. Blade II (2002)

9. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995)

8. X2 (2003)

7. American Pie 2 (2001)

6. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

5. Die Hard 2 (1990)

4. The Devil's Rejects (2005)

3. The Godfather: Part II (1974)

2. Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back (1980)

1. The Dark Knight (2008)

Keefer Madness: Seinfeldcast

The same dude that brought us "Wrestlecast" last week was back at it again.  This time, Adam Lefkoe of WHAS 11 in Louisville went with the greatest TV comedy of all time.  It was real and spectacular.

Goldust Back On Raw? Goldust Back On Raw!

Clearly they can bring back any WWF guy from the 90s and it is a good thing in my book.  Even this piece of work.  Goldust was a classic.  Why not?

Oh, also one of my favorites from all-time, Edge, is back as well.  ("You think you know me, you know me?")

Two Monday Night Football games, Old school guys on Monday Night Raw, and a nice little Bruins doc on NESN (I'll catch it later.)  That is one hell of a TV night.

NFL Awards Predictions

On the record picks for 2013.  If any of them are right I can reference this blog.  If they are all wrong they will long be forgotten.  Perfect.

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Giovani Bernard, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Kenny Vaccaro, S, New Orleans Saints

Coach of the Year: Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs

Defensive Player of the Year: Aldon Smith, DE, San Francisco 49ers

MVP: Matt Ryan, QB, Atlanta Falcons

Keefer Madness: The Hoff vs. Sam Jackson

Thursday night's Keefer Madness was all about a potential feud between Baywatch star David Hasselhoff and Jules Winnfield himself Samuel L. Jackson.  Who is the real Nick Fury?

2013 NFL Predictions

The 2013 NFL season kicks off tonight. Here is how I think the final standings will play out.

And it's with pictures!  Reading is the worst.

AFC (playoff teams facing right)

NFC

Crushed it.

Throwback Thursday: College Football '96 for SEGA

This was one of the great SEGA football games going.  I remember using Ohio State a lot, which is strange because don't like them... at all.  I always rooted for Florida State growing up (big Charlie Ward, Warrick Dunn fan.)  But I played with the Buckeyes.  The reason?  Simple, Eddie George and Terry Glenn were unreal.  And even Bobby Hoying wasn't trash.   Solid backup team was USC, Keyshawn Johnson was a monster and caught everything.

Great game!  And look, 108 teams!  (Seriously though, that was crazy badass at the time, it took me forever to pick who to play with.)

Keefer Madness: Name Dropping Old WWF Stars

A sports anchor dude in Louisville thought he would spice up his highlights by mentioning as many old wrestlers as possible.  This clip has made the rounds on the world wide interwebs, and Keefer Madness was no exception.

Job well done sir.

Top 10 Tuesday: Batman Villains

Time to start up a weekly segment here on The Brief.  Top 10 Tuesday.  Is it the most original thing?  No.  Are lists something a 3rd grader could do?  Yes.  But people like rankings and it's easy to argue someone's list.  So for as long as it lasts, I present, Top 10 Tuesdays: Batman Villains.  (I don't consider Catwoman a villain, just too friendly with Batman.)

Honorable Mention: Hush, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Holiday, Victor Zsasz

10. Calender Man

Julian Day committed crimes based on significant days/ holidays on calender, hence the name.  It may seem corny, but in the graphic novel The Long Halloween, Calender Man basically played the role of Hannibal Hector.

9. Bane

I didn't love The Dark Knight Rises.  Bane, however is one of the best bad guys to mess with Batman.  Brains and Bronze with the voice of an underwater Sean Connery, what's not to like?  Oh and he also broke the Bat.

8. Ra's al Ghul

His daughter Talia, could probably also be on this list.  Ra's is the leader of the League of Assassins, and one of Batman's toughest foes.  He was the perfect villain in Batman Begins and I'm pretty sure he is everything proof.

7. Scarecrow

Dr. Jonathan Crane.  He was a great addition to the Christopher Nolan trilogy.  He uses a lot of drugs and toxins to mess with the minds of whomever.  Lot of toxin-wielding villains in Gotham City.  Toxins.

6. The Riddler

I have always enjoyed, Edward Nigma aka The Riddler.  Who doesn't love riddles, puzzles, and word games?  Throw in a sweet green suit, question marks, and a cane... that's a villain!

5. The Mad Hatter

Is Jervis Tetch a rip off of an Alice in Wonderland character?  Of course he is.  But he's a real sick-o.  Another dude who relies on mind-control devices.  Dare I say toxins?  He's obsessed with the Lewis Carroll book and is a genius.  He needs to be in one of these 13 Ben Affleck movies.

4. Two-Face

D.A. Harvey Dent was a guy fighting for Gotham.  WAS.  A court room incident (in the comic storylines) turned him into one of the best villains of all-time.  The coin flip is bad ass and where does he get those suits?

3. Poison Ivy

Pamela Isley is all about the toxins.  She can also control plants.  You wouldn't think that would be very helpful, but turns out it works for her.

2. Harley Quinn

Dr. Harleen Quinzel was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum where she was working with The Joker and boom she falls in love with him and goes nuts.  Great idea.  She started on the animated TV series, was worked in the comics and is probably at her best in the video games such as Batman: Arkham City.

1. The Joker

Couldn't be anyone else.  The most famous villain in all of comics.  The Joker is the best.  Whether it's old school Adam West Batman, or Jack Nicholson and of course Heath Ledger.  Check out the graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke if you want an origin story for the greatest villain all-time.

UFC 164 Recap

Some big fights took place last night in Milwaukee at UFC 164. Chad Mendes and Ben Rothwell got wins but lets focus on the two big ones.

Josh Barnett returned to the UFC after being away from the company since 2002. He scored a 1st round TKO victory over former Heavyweight champ Frank Mir.  This is huge for the division.  Throw Barnett's name in the top mix with Velasquez and Dos Santos.  Hell even Travis Browne who crushed Alistair Overeem allows for some great potential match ups with the big boys.

The main event saw the rematch between Lightweight champ Benson Henderson and Anthony Pettis, where it was the champ looking to overcome a loss in the WEC, a notable loss for how it happened.  (Pettis' crazy run up the cage kick to the face.)

Henderson started out all well and good but ultimately on the ground Pettis grabbed an arm and would have snapped in half.  Worst of all for Benson, he verbal tapped.  Is there anything worse?  Don't get me wrong Henderson is one of the best in the world and would kick my ass blah blah but verbal tap?  Yikes.  Wonder if he just said "uncle."

Great night of fights and don't blink but there are more coming this Wednesday on Fox Sports 1, headlined by Ryan Bader vs. Glover Teixeira.
