Reindeer Power Rankings

9. DONNER
Bad father, was ashamed of Rudolph's gifts.  Also there's variously spellings/ pronunciations for Donner including Dunder (German for Thunder and Donder).  If they can't get the name right, how good is he really?  (The only positive for Donner, of course, is that his sperm help create Rudolph.)

8. BLIXEN
Another one where his name is sometimes different including Blitzen.  So I believe his real name is Blixen which is German for Lightning.  So he and Donner were a bit of a team, no thanks.  But then because he has a drinking problem people would call him BLITZEN... hence the low ranking.

7. CUPID
Named after the Roman god of erotic love.  These other reindeer, you hear there name and you think reindeer.  Certainly more his parents fault.  No even close to the most well known Cupid.

6. COMET
Coach Comet... one of the best fliers in the field, but also, like Donner and Santa for that matter, he is a real piece of work.  Comet is the one that says, Rudolph won't be playing anymore "reindeer games."  I wonder if the Coach is necessary the best guy, or is he serving a punishment.  Plus how about some HUMBLE REINDEER PIE when they need Rudolph to lead the way.

5. RUDOLPH
Clutch.  He's best when the night is on the line.  Led the sleigh his 1st Christmas on the team.  He was the bigger reindeer and did not dwell on the hurtful things Comet and his father said to him.  Not sure how he did it.  He'd be higher on this list, but think of all the years they DIDN'T need him?  Throw in the flashlight technology now and his nose is pretty useless.  But I appreciate the clutchness and feel for the big stage.

4. DANCER
Kind of like A Boy Named Sue... Dancer had to hear about his name all his live, it made him tough, he, like Sue, also went back years later and murdered his father.  Maybe the best cage fighter on the team, solid flier, and amazing dancer.

3. VIXEN
It's a man's game, but here's Vixen, the only lady on the sleigh.  Santa took the 8 and then 9 best reindeer IN THE WORLD... and only one female made the cut and it was Vixen.  When she goes into heat... you better lock the stable.

2. PRANCER
Actually has his own movie, so there had to be something there.  Long time member of the team, he got in a traffic accident in his movie, way past his prime, but when he was right, there wasn't anyone better at pulling a sleigh than Prancer.

1    1. DASHER
1st name mentioned in the song.  And when Coach Comet is starting his lessons he singles out Dasher's son... probably thinking this is gonna be the next guy...

TV Show Grades

A = Fargo, The Leftovers, South Park, The Last Man on Earth, Jessica Jones, Ash vs. Evil Dead

B = The Flash, Arrow

C = The Walking Dead, Grimm

D = Gotham, Scream Queens

F = American Horror Story: Hotel

Now there is a range on these scales as well.  Fargo and The Leftovers are your A+ shows while Jessica Jones is probably an A- and a lot closer to B+ shows like The Flash and Arrow.  I have a love/hate thing with Gotham.  I enjoy it enough, but it's not nearly as good as it should be, same for The Walking Dead.

Am I missing any shows?  Probably.

Looking forward to the return of "Better Call Saul" "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" "Daredevil" and I'm sure others that I can't remember.

Week 13 QBs

The final week of the fantasy football regular season is upon us.  Here are two QBs I like this weekend and two I do not.

LIKE:
Ryan Fitzpatrick vs. Giants
Fitz is coming off a 4 TD performance, this "road" game is in a very familiar atmosphere, he has Marshall & Decker and a terrible NYG secondary.  The bearded assassin (new nickname? sure.) also runs a bit and never kills you with a terrible (fantasy) game.

Marcus Mariota vs. Jaguars
The rookie has had 2 different 4 TD pass games, he tossed 3 last week.  In his first game against Jax he did not throw a TD but ran for one on a highlight reel play.  That was also on a Thursday night and in Jacksonville where the Jags were wearing urine soaked uniforms, so that couldn't help.

DON'T LIKE:
Philip Rivers vs. Broncos
Denver is the best in the league against opposing QBs.  No one has thrown for 300 yards (Stafford 282 is season-high).  Just a brutal match up for Rivers who has been real good this year.  I'd sit him down this week.

Drew Brees vs. Panthers
Another tough match up here, and Brees is coming off a game in which his offense failed to score a touchdown for the first time since the Reagan administration (not entirely true).  He kinda sucks now. He's had 2 really good games this year, but for the most part is cooked... and not Brandin Cooks.  Brees has more in the tank than say Peyton Manning but it can't be much.

And make sure you tune into The Fantasy Football Show on Sunday, 8-10am on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

The Walking Dead: Prologue to the Next Chapter

It was a very "meh" first 8 episodes of Season 6 of The Walking Dead. There was the Glenn thing... and... Morgan vs. Carol... and the one kid got a gun. They really didn't give us much of a cliff hanger either for when the season picks back up in February. Instead they made you sit thru however long into "Into The Badlands" to show a 2 minute teaser "prologue." And here that is if you missed it...

Week 7 Fantasy Football Pick Ups

RB James Starks, Green Bay Packers (22.5% owned)
Packers are on the bye so you may be able to grab him off the waiver wire.  Eddie Lacy has not been good, at all, maybe he's hurt, and Starks just ripped off 100+ yards and his 1st TD of the season last week.

WR Stefon Diggs, Minnesota Vikings (3.2%)
Diggs has 13 catches (19 targets) for 216 yards in 2 games played this year.  He had a rib injury early on and also had a bye week mixed but he looks to be on the same page with Bridgewater, and more involved than Charles Johnson.

WR Lance Moore, Detroit Lions (0.3%)
Targeted 28 times this season but 14 in the last 2 games with a TD in each.  Worth a shot in deeper leagues.

WR Marvin Jones, Cincinnati Bengals (29.1%)
3 touchdowns in 6 games for Jones, and if Andy Dalton is going to be the #1 player in fantasy football, he needs more than Green and Eifert.  The targets are closer than you'd think.  AJ Green (50), Tyler Eifert (40), JONES (37).

WR Brandon LaFell, New England Patriots (20.5%)
LaFell is eligible to come off the PUP list this week.  He's part of a crowded passing attack (Gronk, Edelman, Lewis, Amendola...)

30 for 30: Mike and the Mad Dog

Mike Francesa had Bill Simmons on his show this afternoon where the Sports Pope revealed that he will be a part of a 30 for 30 documentary on ESPN about "Mike and the Mad Dog."  The news crushed Simmons as he is no longer there obviously, but this is amazing news for fans of Mike and Dog.  No date was announcement for when this bad boy will be ready, but I'll be waiting.

Hopefully they play this call in full...

Week 5 Fantasy Football Picks Ups

4 weeks in the books and even you poor bastards who are (0-4) still have a chance to turn things around and make a playoff push.  Here are five (likely available) dudes to add this week...

Ronnie Hillman, RB, Denver Broncos
Last game: 11 carries, 103 yards, 1 TD.  Hillman > C.J. Anderson

Leonard Hankerson, WR, Atlanta Falcons
Last game: 6-103-TD, 2/4 games with double digit points in standard scoring leagues.

Allen Hurns, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Last game: 11 catches, 15 targets, 116 yards and a TD

Tavon Austin, WR, St. Louis Rams
Last game: 6-96-2 TD

Owen Daniels, TE, Denver Broncos
For this match up vs. Oakland.  Raiders have allowed the most points to opposing TEs this season.

Tom Brady TD Facts

Tom Brady has thrown 401 career touchdowns, ranking him 4th on the All-Time list (trailing Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, and Dan Marion.)  He will likely pass Marino (420) this year and then perhaps Favre/Manning later on (both are 500+).

Here are some fun facts about all of Brady's TD passes...

1st - Terry Glenn, 2001

100th - Daniel Graham, 2005

200th - Chris Baker, 2009

300th - Rob Gronkowski, 2012

400th - Danny Amendola, 2015

Most by Receiver:
1. 57 - Rob Gronkowski
2. 39 - Randy Moss
3. 34 - Wes Welker
4. 24 - Deion Branch
5. 18 - Aaron Hernandez

Most by Opponent:
1. Bills - 61
2. Dolphins - 45
3. Jets - 36
4. Colts - 26
5. Steelers - 22

By Quarter:
1st - 80
2nd - 133
3rd - 91
4th - 96
OT - 1

Road - 205
Home - 196

Day of the Week:
Sunday - 325
Monday - 43
Thursday - 20
Saturday - 13

Week 4 Fantasy Pick Ups

*Victor Cruz, WR, New York Giants (expected to make his season debut this Sunday after dealing with a calf injury)

*Rishard Matthews, WR, Miami Dolphins (back to back 100+ yard receiving games, clearly the next option outside of Jarvis Landry, and more of a TD threat)

*Chris Johnson, RB, Arizona Cardinals (I'm still a David Johnson guy, but CJ2K is getting 20+ carries a game with Ellington out and is doing something with them.  Zona offense is on fire.)

*Thomas Rawls, RB, Seattle Seahawks (Lynch was very limited on Sunday, Fred Jackson still got carries but it was Rawls who ripped off 104 yards on 16 carries.  He's more of a handcuff now to Lynch but if Beastmode remains banged up, Rawls could be decent here and there.)

*Antonio Andrews, RB, Tennessee Titans (In his season debut, Andrew rushed 12 times for 49 yards and a TD, he also had a catch for 12 yards.  Most importantly it was more carries than Bishop Sankey and Dexter McCluster.  Not expecting big things from Andrew, but all "lead" backs are worth owning.

Flex Play Friday Week 3

5. Texans RB Chris Polk
vs. Tampa Bay, 1pm... Bucs gave up a ton of points against Bishop freaking Sankey in Week 1.  Polk also seems to have passed Alfred Blue by, and Arian Foster doesn't appear ready to go.

4. Falcons RB Devonta Freeman
@ Dallas, 1pm... No Tevin Coleman, opens door for Freeman.

3. Browns RB Isaiah Crowell
vs. Oakland, 1pm... Raiders allow the most fantasy points to RBs since the start of last year.

2. Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon
@ New England, 1pm... Pats have been torched by backs this season.

1. Cardinals WR John Brown
vs. San Francisco, 4:05pm... 49ers are just terrible, and Brown is due for a 100+ yard game with a 50 yd TD.  SF secondary is porous.

National Comic Book Day

In honor of National Comic Book Day, I give you my all-time favorite...

Week 3 Fantasy Pick Ups

  • Travis Benjamin, WR, Cleveland Browns (He only has 6 catches on the season, but 3 are for touchdowns and he clearly has a nice re pore with Johnny Manziel.  He's also (as seen Sunday) a threat in the return game.  His TDs will dry up, but he's a big play guy who could serve as a Flex play or a Bye week fill-in.)
  • Matt Jones, RB, Washington Redskins (19 carries, 123 yards, 2 touchdowns.  Nice little Sunday.  Jones finished with 1 more carry than Alfred Morris.  I don't think he's overtaken him yet, but that could happen soon.  Bad news for Morris owners.)
  • Michael Crabtree, WR, Oakland Raiders (I have a hard time trusting Crabtree, but 9 receptions for 111 yards and a score is strong to quite strong.  On top of that he had 16 targets, which was 5 more than Amari Cooper, who should get the attention of Joe Haden next week and top corners throughout the season.  Derek Carr isn't horrible, so Crabtree may have some value after all.)
  • Devonta Freeman, RB, Atlanta Falcons (Sounds like rookie Tevin Coleman may miss time with a rib injury, Freeman isn't great, but for a couple weeks could see an increased workload and maybe fall in the endzone.)
  • James Starks, RB, Green Bay Packers (Eddie Lacy sprained his ankle paving the way for a lot of James Starks on Sunday.  Packers play next Monday, giving Lacy another day to recover.  Lacy owners need to add Starks and even those who are looking for a back should do so, if even only for 1 weeks worth of help.)

Tune in 2 hours and 15 minutes prior to kick off AND THEN immediately following the game for 2 hours of great talk.

You can find it at Patriots.com or download the New England Patriots App

Rich Reviews: Straight Outta Compton

I saw Straight Outta Compton over the weekend, and it was terrific.  The 2 and a half hours flew by as they told the story of the rise and fall of the N.W.A. (and subsequent rise of some)

The actors for Dr. Dre, Ice Cube (his real-life son), Eazy-E, MC Ren, DJ Yella and others were all pretty spot on.  The music highlighted the whole thing, from their earlier stuff together to some of their individual projects after they broke up.

I thought they may have skipped over a few things that could have been explained better, but I understand you need to cut things out so it's not 5 hours long.  The timeline may be off a little bit too, though it doesn't take away from the movie.

Straight Outta Compton makes Notorious look like an after school special.

If you like these guys, you'll love it.  If you like rap, you'll love it.  If you don't like any of it, you still may like the movie.

Highly recommended.  9/10
